We are a family-run business located in the parish of Harting, near Petersfield, on the Sussex/Hampshire border. Our farm estate has been described as “nestling in the foothills of the South Downs” as it lies to the north of the main chalk escarpment and the icon ridgeline of Harting Down and Beacon Hill.
My father bought Hill Ash in 1954 with 500 acres and run in hand as a traditional mixed dairy and arable farm with a small rough shoot. Until the Second World War the farm grew a significant acreage of hops, hence the iconic ‘hop kilns' - the most westerly sited in the UK and a dominant feature of the farmstead at Hill Ash. The dairy ceased in 1982 and the farm has evolved and grown to now include over a 1,000 acres of predominantly arable with permanent pasture and woodland.
